Common questions

The barcode won't scan.

Make sure you're on the barcode printed on the back cover — the one whose number starts with 978 or 979 — with decent light and the whole barcode in frame. Library stickers sometimes cover it. And when a barcode won't cooperate, the Search tab finds the same book by title or author.

The book I checked says there isn't enough data.

That's Peek being honest. When we don't have enough information to score a dimension you care about, the app says 'unknown' instead of guessing — silence is never treated as safety. Coverage grows constantly, so a book that's unknown today may be fully scored soon.

Where do content reports come from?

Reports are compiled from many published sources and automated analysis, then expressed as levels — how much, how graphic, how central. A report describes what's inside a book. It never rates whether a book is good, and neither do we.

Are my preferences private?

Completely. You set them on your iPhone, the match is scored on your iPhone, and neither ever leaves it. The only thing Peek sends is the book you look up — and that request is about the book, not about you.

How do I manage my subscription?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple: open the iPhone Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Peek to change plans or cancel. Cancel during the yearly plan's free trial and you won't be charged.
