Peek Privacy Policy

Peek is made by Rae Legacy LLC (“we”, “us”), based in Florida, United States. This policy describes what the Peek iOS app does with your information. It is deliberately short, because the app is deliberately simple: Peek has no accounts, and everything personal — your reading preferences, your scan history, and every match verdict — stays on your iPhone. The only things that leave your device are the book lookups themselves and App Store purchase receipts, both described below.

The short version

  • You never create an account, and we never see your name or email.
  • The preferences you set — which content dimensions matter to you and where your boundaries sit — are stored on your device and are never uploaded, ever. Matching happens on your iPhone.
  • When you scan or search, the app sends the book's ISBN or your search text to our servers to fetch that book's content report. That request is about a book, not about you.
  • The camera reads barcodes live, on the device. It records nothing and uploads nothing.
  • No advertising, no ad SDKs, and no third-party analytics SDKs.
  • Purchases run through Apple. We never see your payment details.
  • Delete the app and its data goes with it.

What the app stores on your device

To do its job, Peek keeps the following in the app's private storage on your iPhone:

  • Your content preferences: the dimensions you've chosen to care about, your stance on each, and the levels or values you set.
  • Your history: the books you've scanned or looked up, with the match verdict each one got.
  • A cache of book reports and covers you've already fetched, so books you've checked stay available offline.

None of this is transmitted to us. It is not synced to any cloud — ours or Apple's. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

What the app sends, and why

Book reports live on our servers, so looking up a book requires a request: when you scan a barcode or search by title, the app sends the ISBN or your search text to our backend (hosted with Convex in the United States) and gets the book's shared content report back. Like any internet request, this carries your IP address at the network level.

  • Lookups are not tied to any account or profile — there is none — and we do not build reading profiles of our users.
  • Your preferences and your match results are never part of any request. The scoring that turns a report into your verdict happens entirely on your iPhone.

Camera

Peek uses your iPhone's camera for one thing: reading the barcode on a book's back cover, live, using Apple's on-device recognition.

  • No photos or video are recorded.
  • Nothing from the camera is stored or leaves your phone.
  • The camera is optional — you can always find a book by title or author instead.

You can revoke camera access at any time in the iPhone Settings app.

No analytics, no ads

Peek contains no advertising, no ad SDKs, and no third-party analytics SDKs. If that ever changes, this policy will change first — and we will call it out in the app.

Purchases and subscriptions

Purchases in Peek are processed by Apple through the App Store — we never see your card or billing details. To know whether your subscription is active, Peek uses RevenueCat, a subscription-management service: it receives your App Store purchase receipt along with a random, anonymous identifier generated on your device, and tells the app that this device has an active subscription. Apple's handling of your purchase information is governed by Apple's privacy policy, and RevenueCat's by theirs.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app deletes everything it stored — preferences, history, and caches. On our side there is nothing personal to delete: no account, no profile, and no way to trace a book lookup back to you.

Children's privacy

Many readers use Peek to choose books for their families, but the app itself is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — including children.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will also be called out in the app.
